Terletak di selat Bangka, menara suar Pulau Pelepas difungsikan sebagai jalur pandu bagi pelayaran dari arah semenanjung Malaya menuju Batavia dan sebaliknya.
Dibuat dengan konstruksi berbahan lempengan plat baja dengan bentuk persegi.
Antara satu lempengan dengan lempengan lainnya dihubungkan dengan mur dan baut yang juga terbuat dari baja.
Untuk mencapai bagian atas, didalamnya dibangun tangga yang melingkar.
Hingga saat ini (2018), kondisinya masih sangat kokoh, terawat dan berfungsi dengan baik.
Mercusuar Pulau Pelepas dibangun pada masa Pemerintahan Hindia Belanda, yang dipimpin oleh Ratu Wilhelmina pada tahun 1893.
Wilhelmina mewarisi tahta sebagai Ratu Belanda pada usia 10 tahun dari Ayahnya, Raja Willem III yang meninggal pada tahun 1890.
Karena usianya belum mencapai 18 tahun maka Ibunya, Ratu Emma ditunjuk menjadi walinya dalam Pemerintahan.
Itu sebabnya, pada plat baja yang tertempel di Menara Suar Pulau Pelepas tertulis nama dua orang Ratu Belanda.
