Masjid itu adalah Masjid Jamik yang arsitekturnya cukup unik dengan seni bangunan melayu. Masjid ini telah mengalami 1 kali pemugaran memadukan akulturasi kebudayaan arab dan etnis china.
Masjid ini telah ditetapkan pemerintah sebagai salah satu benda cagar budaya pada tanggal 26 Oktober 1998.

Uniknya lagi, masjid ini pada tanggal 25 April 1949, pernah dikunjungi Presiden RI Pertama, Ir. Soekarno selama pengasingannya di Pulau Bangka.

Yang lebih uniknya lagi nih dekat tiang menara masjid ada sepasang meriam kecil (Lela) dengan dudukan berbentuk trapesium ditutupi keramik berwarna putih.
